6 Clutter-Cutting Closet Secrets

Let’s face it. Closet organization can be a challenge sometimes, and figuring out how to tame the closet chaos can be overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be though.

Here are 6 quick tips for cutting back the closet clutter.

1.     Get Matching Hangers

This is key. It’s a simple change but leaves a huge impact. We highly recommend black felt hangers, but if you prefer a different style, do what works best for you.

2.     Categorize

Group your clothes by style, season, use, etc. Put like with like and give them an appropriate home.

3.     Color Code

Color coding is not just for people with obsessive compulsive personalities. It actually helps eliminate visual clutter and allows items to be easily found and retrieved.

4.     Utilize Baskets and Bins

Contain loose items in baskets to create a visually pleasing aesthetic. If you don’t need to stack items, then choose one without a lid to make things more accessible. These are my go-to open top bins for closets.

5.     Put Bulky in Back

Think of your closet like a photograph. If you’re taking a picture of a group of people, you want to be able to see everyone, so you put the taller people in the back and shorter ones in the front. It’s the same with organization; you want to be able to see everything at a glance. Go ahead and shift those heavy coats to the back and bring forward those tank tops, especially if you live in Texas.

6.     Create A Donate Drop Spot

Keep a bag in the corner for items that no longer fit or ones you decide you’re ready to part with. When it fills up, take it to your local donation drop-off spot. Doing this regularly as you try on clothes will save you the headache of trying to clean out your closet in one sweep.
