There are always those times especially as the holidays approach when you need to throw together a gift at the eleventh hour, and the last thing you want to do is run to the store just for expensive gift wrap. If you’re like most people, you probably have a stash of gift wrapping supplies on hand somewhere in your home. The key is being able to easily find what you have when you need it. Whether you have one box dedicated to gift wrap or a whole room, here are some tips for keeping it tidy and orderly.
Gather and sort your gift wrap supplies
The first thing to do at the start of any organizing project is to collect all items together in one place. From there, separate items by category (wrapping paper, tissue paper, bags, ribbons, bows, gift tags, scissors, tape, etc.) and decide what can be tossed. If something is damaged or realistically not something you would use, go ahead and discard it. This should leave you with a clear stash of gift wrapping supplies ready to be used.
Designate a space for your gift wrap supplies
Now that you know what you have, you can decide the best place to store your supplies. Really anywhere in the house works, but remember that you want them accessible while also out of the way. A few good options include: in an extra closet, under a bed, inside an entryway piece of furniture, or in an under the stairs closet.
Choose a gift wrap organizing solution
Depending on the amount of supplies you have on hand and the area you choose to store them, one or more of the following ideas will help keep them organized and in good condition.
1. A simple solution is to utilize stackable bins with lids to store your gift wrap in a closet or on a shelf somewhere.
Try using the following:
Boot Box for gift bags
Large Shoe Boxes for tissue paper and accessories
Long Underbed Box for wrapping paper rolls
Bonus: there’s a version that comes with wheels if you need to roll it under the bed.
2. If you have the space and your shelves aren’t as tall, try using open top bins for easy access to your gift wrap supplies.
The iDesign jumbo pantry bin works great for all categories of gift wrap: gift bags, tissue paper, embellishments, etc.
Pro tip: even though the bins are clear and make it easy to see what’s inside, it’s still helpful to add labels to make sure supplies stay sorted.
A Vertical Gift Wrap Organizer stores wrapping paper rolls upright and helps keep them from getting damaged.
3. If you choose a space like an under the stairs closet, you might want a portable solution.
This Elfa Gift Wrap Cart will both store all of your supplies and roll with you to wherever you do your gift wrapping.
